IT'S SHOCKING!

The Elsa Schiaparelli brand has laid dormant since 1954, although Schiaparelli herself lived until 1973. An Italian native, "Schiap" began designing in Paris in the late 20's (she created the color Shocking, which we now call Hot Pink) and grew to become one of the most prominent and daringly creative designers of the 1930's. She was friends with many artists of the era, like Salvador Dali, and designed eccentric looks such as a hat shaped like a high heeled shoe. Her grand daughter is 60's super model and now actress Marisa Berenson.

Schiaparelli's fashion house suffered from World War ll and she shuttered the business in 1954. But her name and legend lived on for fashion lovers and, in 2006, Diego Della Valle purchased Schiaparelli's trademarks and archives with an eye on resuscitating the brand. According to WWDF in 2011, accessories, fragrances and cosmetics should have been on store shelves in Febuary 2013. And that a designer (John Galliano's name was mentioned) would be in place to begin creating the fashion line.

So far only French model/actress Farida Khelfa has been hired as the Schiaparelli spokeswoman. And as of April 2013 there have been no further news reports regarding the brand.
