Daryl Hannah

Arron Spelling was producing a TV movie entitled PAPER DOLLS. It was inspired by the life of Brooke Shields and all the other young girls that were getting started in the modeling biz at fourteen years old.

This, so bad it's almost good, soap opera was to be directed by Ed Zwick, who went on to win many awards for producing and directing feature film's and I am sure is real proud of this one.

The stars were Joan Collins as the evil head of the modeling agency, a new actress named Daryl Hannah to play the Brooke character, and Alexandra Paul, a then unknown model, that was to play the girl just starting out.

I was brought on board as a fashion consultant and to design the makeup looks for the photos, ads and magazine covers that would appear in the story line. I even managed to get Mike Edwards, Priscilla Presleys then boyfriend, the part of the top male model role. This project was going to be crazy fun!

I never hit it off with Alexandra...she was a little too self righteous for me. But I fell in love with the kooky and very beautiful Daryl Hannah. Especially on the day I had to paint her fingernails with the finishing touches of polish before going out to be photographed. She held out her hands and I'm painting each nail as I go along. Except there was a finger missing! Not the whole finger just the tip and nail of her left index finger. Seems she lost it in an accident as a child in a car door or something...but she was very good at hiding it when she was on camera. It just endeared her to me all the more.

Then she told me about her new film that was opening soon...BLADE RUNNER. One of my all time favorites to this day. The film was a futuristic sci-fi fantasy where she plays a rebel sex android that can do acrobatic flips and kill men with her thighs. What can I say...I was hooked.

Later as we were about to go into the private screening of PAPER DOLLS, I tried to explain to Mr. Spelling that I thought Daryl had a great future ahead of her. He said, "Really? I think Alexandra is the one to watch". Oh well, they both went on to work again. Daryl next starred in the film SPLASH with Tom Hanks and Alexandra went on to do BAYWATCH with David Hasselhoff. So you tell me.

Josephine Baker

I love this poster. I wish there were still fabulous clubs where you could see a show as beautiful and elegant as La Baker.
