Elizabeth Taylor’s iconic jewels coming to auction at Christies
Elizabeth Taylor dazzled the world with her luminous beauty, lavish lifestyle—and an unquenchable passion for diamonds and jewels that was fueled by the great loves of her life.
The late Hollywood star amassed one of the foremost jewelry collections in the world, including a 33.19-carat diamond ring and a 16th century pear-shaped pearl from one of her seven husbands, Richard Burton.
The Associated Pressed recently viewed about two dozen of her most iconic pieces at Christie’s auction house, which is selling her complete jewelry collection, valued at $30 million, in New York on Dec. 13-14.
It’s an extraordinary collection of rubies, diamonds, emeralds and sapphires in intricate and bold designs.
"These are the top jewels that Elizabeth Taylor received from the great loves of her life, Mike Todd and Richard Burton," said Christie’s jewelry expert Rahul Kadakia. "They’re from moments in life that were very dear to her," jewels that were purchased in Bulgari in Rome, at Cartier in New York and at auction.
The stories behind them are as priceless as the gems themselves. In a 2002 memoir, "My Love Affair with Jewelry," Taylor took readers on a personal journey of her collection, describing in her own words how she came to own each piece.
"I never, never thought of my jewelry as trophies," she wrote. "I’m here to take care of them and to love them. . When I die and they go off to auction I hope whoever buys them gives them a really good home."

J'Adore Charlize Theron
Charlize Theron rubs shoulders with Marilyn Monroe and Marlene Dietrich in her new ad for the fragrance Dior J'Adore.
The ad, which was directed by "Seven Years in Tibet" and "Enemy at the Gates" director Jean-Jacques Annaud, shows the leggy, blond Oscar-winner hurrying to get to a Paris fashion show at the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles.
After moving past thrilled bystanders and paparazzi, she moves backstage to get ready for the show. While she's stepping into a sparkling gold Christian Dior dress, she sees Dietrich and Monroe sitting and watching the proceedings.
The two glamour icons, both famous fans of Christian Dior, watch with approval as Theron continues the tradition of unending glamour, courtesy of the French luxury brand.

GARBO
Back in the mid 70s when I first moved to New York I lived on east 54 street between 2nd and 3rd avenues.
One warm Spring day I was walking home and noticed a woman down the street coming towards me. She was wearing a teal and black print dress with short sleeves and a scooped neckline, but what really caught my attention was her lipstick color. It was a fairly bright pink with a violet undertone. I kept my eyes on this lip color until she was close enough to walk past me, at that moment I realized it was Greta Garbo!
I later learned she lived in the neighborhood on east 52 street.

Nick Ashford ~ May He Rest In Peace
Nick Ashford, who with his wife Valerie Simpson wrote some of Motown's most powerful love duets, died Monday in a New York hospital.
He was 69 and had been undergoing radiation treatments for throat cancer.
Ashford and Simpson wrote Motown's two favorite "Ain't" songs, "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing," along with "You're All I Need To Get By."
They also had a long singing career, scoring their biggest chart hit with 1984's "Solid (As a Rock)" and later settling into a long run at clubs and cabarets.
