WAY BANDY BIRTHDAY TRIBUTE

Model Gia made up by Way Bandy for Cosmopolitan Magazine cover.

Handsome Way Bandy at work.
THE must have book on makeup application.

Way Bandy was the first makeup artist to receive name credit for his work on the pages of Vogue magazine. This helped him become the most famous makeup artist in the world. But it was his charm and his dedication to his craft that made him the favorite artist of supermodels, movie stars, and rock stars. Even top stars that were known for only doing their own makeup, ie: Elizabeth Taylor, Barbra Streisand and Cher, were soon captivated by the artistry of Way Bandy.

His work appeared monthly on the covers of Cosmopolitan magazine and almost as often on the covers of Vogue and Bazaar. He worked with every top photographer of the time. But it was his makeover on the cover of New York magazine of Martha Mitchell. She was the wife of politician John Mitchell, that had been in the press a lot for talking too much and getting her husband in trouble, that really brought the name Way Bandy to the attention of the public at large.

Way's genius inspired the careers of many makeup artists after him and continues to this very day. And so I say thank you and happy birthday Way Bandy. (born 1941 - died 1986)

ANTONIO LOPEZ FOR MAC COSMETICS

MARISA BERENSON - JERRY HALL - PAT CLEVELAND

The MAC Antonio Lopez Fall 2013 makeup collection is inspired by the fashion illustrator's work who collaborated with prestigious magazines like Vogue, Harper's Bazaar or ELLE and created illustrations for luxury labels like Missoni, Valentino, Yves Saint Laurent and Versace. Though he passed away at 44, his unique work continues to excite. The newest MAC Fall 2013 collection is definitely an interesting tribute to the artist and brings exciting '80s inspired palettes and bold cases.

JOHNNY CASABLANCAS DEAD

John Casablancas, the modeling agent who helped launch the careers of Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell and Claudia Schiffer, has died. He was 70. The founder of Elite Model Management died of cancer in Rio de Janeiro, The New York Times reports. The pioneering agent is largely credited with bringing about the age of the supermodel through Elite, founded in Paris in 1972. He steered the careers of women such as Heidi Klum, Gisele Bundchen and Andie MacDowell, turning models into recognizable celebrities in their own rights. His successes were also rocked by scandals. He was accused of engaging in relationships with underage models and resigned from his agency in 2000, following a BBC One undercover exposé showing some of Elite’s European agents bragging about using drugs and having sex with young models. At its height, Elite had $100 million in bookings per year. Casablancas is survived by his wife, Aline Wermelinger, and by five children, including The Strokes’ lead singer Julian Casablancas.
