Pearly

Mr. Rodolfo Alfonso Raffaello Piero Filiberto
Guglielmi di Valentina d'Antonguolla.

I long to wear a turban again someday, (I did wear a blue silk turban once to the Met costume party with a neon pink Steven Sprouse jacket and BillyBoy* pearls back in the 8os). But I love the look when I see a man from India on the street wearing one.

MODEL & MAKEUP ARTIST

Beautiful Esme being painted by the cosmetic genius Way Bandy during a photo shoot for Vogue US by the master photographer Stan Shaffer.

Way was my inspiration to become a makeup artist, I adore Stan's amazing lighting, and I believe Esme had the biggest eyebrows in the business.

Robert Isabell dead of natural causes

I was shocked to read on Page 6 that party planner supreme and home fragrance designer Robert Isabell died of a heart attack at the age of 57 in his New York townhouse last week.

I had a fantasy dream of Robert designing my wedding reception someday ( marriage another fantasy dream of mine). Learn more about his amazing career here by reading Tina Brown's memory of Mr. Isabell.

"A Duluth, Minn. native, Robert Isabell started working part-time for a florist as a wee elementary schooler. In 1978, he arrived in New York on the night before Halloween; while wandering the streets, he walked by Studio 54 when all of a sudden the club's legendary co-owner, Steve Rubell, grabbed him and pulled him inside. Isabell eventually became Studio 54's floral designer and later handled arrangements for Rubell and partner Ian Schrager's club Palladium. He opened his own floral design business, Robert Isabell, Inc., in 1980."

Those were the days my friend...

Photographer: Mike Rheinhardt. Models: Patti Hansen and Janice Dickinson.
Hair and Make-Up: Rick Gillette

What made Rick Gillette so unique in those days was the fact that he could do makeup AND hair equally well, and that Vogue wanted him to. As a rule they preferred separate people, one for the makeup and one for the hair.

He was my inspiration to continue to do both myself, but I never achieved quite the degree of fame Rick did. I hope to have an interview with the master himself, someday, on FPLT.

What do they say about girls that wear glasses? Men don't make passes?

Yeah right.

The Sad Saga of Karen Mulder

A true beauty and one of my favorite faces of the 80s her troubles started on October 31, 2001, Mulder claimed during a taping of the French channel France 2 show Tout le Monde en Parle (Everyone is Talking About It) hosted by Thierry Ardisson, and with a live audience in the studio, that various people, including top executives at her former agency, Elite, and Prince Albert of Monaco, had tried to rape her. Moreover, Mulder said that her own father had hypnotized her from the age of two and then raped her. The producers of the show deemed her emotionally unstable and did not broadcast the interview. Not only was the show never aired, but the entire recording was erased.

Days later, Mulder repeated her allegations, this time to a weekly magazine in an interview conducted in her Paris apartment. Within hours of the interview, her sister Saskia arrived and took her to Villa Montsouris, a psychiatric hospital specializing in such disorders as depression, anxiety, and delirium, where she stayed for five months. The stay reportedly was paid for by Elite models president Gerald Marie, an old friend of hers.

On December 11, 2002, after suffering for years from chronic depression, Mulder went into a coma after she overdosed on sleeping pills in an apparent suicide attempt.

On a bright note, she gave birth to a daughter, Anna, on October 30, 2006.

And on July 1, 2007 she returned to the catwalk at the Dior Autumn/Winter 07/08 Couture Collection in Paris. (You can see she had her nose made thinner here)

But now this report has appeared in the international press:

"Blonde beauty Karen Mulder used to stalk the catwalk and grace the pages of Vogue alongside Naomi, Tyra, Claudia and Cindy back in the day. But unlike many of her supermodel counterparts, life has not been so kind to her since her heyday.

Mulder was arrested in Paris on July 1, 2009, after allegedly making violent, threatening phone calls to a plastic surgeon.

It's thought that Mulder, whom Vogue dubbed 'the blond with class' at the height of her career, was upset about a procedure she wanted reversed.

A detective said: 'She was screaming and shouting about the operation and became extremely threatening. There were repeated calls to the female surgeon who was extremely scared. The suspect is being interviewed,' as quoted in the U.K.'s Daily Mail."

It's so sad to learn of this latest development in the life of this beautiful woman.
